Dale Winchester Receives Tri-County Red Cross Law Enforcement Hero Award

At the annual Tri-County Chapter of the Red Cross annual Heroes Breakfast, Thursday, May 9, local emergency responders and quick-acting citizens are honored with nine awards. Among them was Officer Dale Winchester who was recognized for the following actions.

It was about 2 a.m., and a Brecknock Township woman awoke feeling dizzy.

Unable to stand, she called 9-1-1.

Officer Dale Winchester arrived at the woman's home and went inside. He immediately smelled sulfur.

He was able to make his way upstairs and drag the woman to safety. He went back inside to rescue her three-legged pet cat.

The woman's partner didn't make it out. He was unresponsive when Winchester arrived, overcome by carbon monoxide, and passed away.

The woman and Winchester were treated at a local hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning and have made full recoveries.
